A Death Doula, or End of Life Doula, is someone who can provide practical, emotional and spiritual support to those facing terminal illness, and their friends and family. Death doulas can also offer support after a death, even if it was sudden or unexpected. They can assist with tending to the body, facilitating time for loved ones to be together with their person in a healing way, they can help with funeral planning, and they can offer grief support.
I believe everyone should have access to the support they need at the end of their lives. This support looks different for each person, so I approach every situation without assumptions about what is "right" or the belief that I know best. I'm happy to assist with anything from advance planning to household or practical tasks—whatever makes this time easier for you.
I deeply value how art, music, and poetry can offer healing, connection, and comfort. I can support individuals and families with any creative activities or projects they have in mind, or help explore how these might be meaningful and beneficial.
As a trained Mindfulness Teacher, I offer meditation, guided visualizations, and relaxation techniques to help manage stress and discomfort. With a background in Quakerism, a study of world religions, and time spent living in community with both Buddhists and Quakers, I have a deep respect and openness to people of all faiths, or none. As part of my doula training, I researched and wrote about death and dying in the Zen buddhist tradition.
I come to this work from personal experience, having supported my mum many years ago through her cancer and terminal diagnosis. She had a beautiful, peaceful death at home and we continued to care after she died - it was a profound privilege and an incredibly healing thing to be able to do.
I have a deep love for the natural world and a strong interest in how we can live more harmoniously with nature, including how we die and care for our dead. As an artist, I make shrouds, as a soft, less-boxy, eco friendly alternative to a coffin. Shrouds can offer us beautiful opportunities for ritual care of the dead, which I believe can deeply impact our grieving and our understanding and perception of death itself.
I am a member of End of Life Doula UK and am working towards my diploma with Living Well Dying Well. I also work part time for End of Life Doula UK, coordinating the mentoring service within the organisation.
I’m able to offer support within a 20 mile radius of where I live in West Yorkshire, including Huddersfield, Wakefield, Bradford, Calderdale, Leeds, and parts of East Lancashire like Burnley, Nelson and Colne. I also work remotely and can offer support online and by phone or text.
I facilitate grief circles and retreats in my local community and offer talks, workshops and ceremonies. Click here for my upcoming events.
I’d be more than happy to discuss any of this with you, and explore together how I might support you. I do charge for my time as this is my job, but the first meeting is free of charge. Funded support may be available according to need.
