The Mycelium Shroud is a hand-felted, cocoon-style, functional burial shroud made from British wool. The wool was washed, carded, and felted by hand in my studio, incorporating moss, vegetation, and earth during the felting process so that the material quite literally carries the land within it. Made in sections and hand-stitched together with willow toggles, the shroud is inspired by the intricate connectivity of mycelium networks and the sensation of being enveloped by the earth.

The shroud is made to the size of my own body—not because it is intended for me, but because it was the body available to measure. It was exhibited in October 2025 as part of Departures, a collective exhibition exploring love, loss, memory and grief at Natural Endings in Todmorden.

The shroud is now used as a teaching and communal object, brought into shroud-making workshops where individuals and groups practice shrouding together. In this way, the work extends beyond a single object, acting as a connective tissue between people, land, and a growing community re-engaging with burial shrouds as acts of care, presence, and return.
