Alongside my studio and site-based practice, I facilitate participatory projects that invite shared making. Often we respond to land and place, think about the cycles of nature, work with natural materials and learn ancient processes. These projects evolve with each context and community, and are shaped by listening, care and collective process.
Earth, Cloth, Brick - Ground Up (March 2025)
Burnley, Lancashire
Working with Ground Up over a series of sessions, we explored natural dyeing, cordage making, needle and wet felting, and foraging. The group created needle-felted mushrooms and leaves, and wet-felted works inspired by old maps, rivers and shapes of nature. Using foraged sticks and naturally dyed wool, the group hung their felted pieces in collective installation. The work is currently exhibited at Burnley’s new arts space at 123 St James’s Street, run by Creative Spaces Burnley.
Open Space 70 Arts Trail, Hebden Bridge Arts (2023)
Rastrick / Hebden Bridge, Calderdale
Working with volunteers at The Space at Field Lane in Rastrick, we created an outdoor installation for the Open Space 70 arts trail - part of Hebden Bridge Arts’ environmental festival in July 2023.
We foraged for weaving materials, learned and shared wild weaving techniques, made nettle cordage, dyed wool with natural plant dyes, and crafted felt balls and woven globes. The forms we made were hung in a tree as a collective response to cycles of wholeness, connection and care for the world. The installation also included a sound element created with a sound artist.
